Well Sealing Program
An unused water well—abandoned well—provides a direct route for pollutants to reach groundwater, your primary drinking water source and interconnection to the lake. Sealing abandoned wells is a safeguard against unwanted pollution. It must done by a licensed groundwater professional. Cass Soil and Water Conservation District offers a cost share program for well sealing that will pay up to $300 per well.
Protecting Groundwater
Groundwater is found in underground geologic formations called aquifers. Layers of earth protect groundwater and act as natural barrier to contam- ination. Unsealed wells however, pose a threat, because they are a direct conduit for pollutants or contaminants to reach the aquifers below, and could potentially affect nearby drinking water wells.
